Seen in FBDO

This coffee mug is best seen at 00:10:14 in Ferris Bueller's Day Off as Grace enjoys the smell of her Liquid Paper while Mr. Rooney talks on the phone with Mrs. Bueller. The mug can be seen directly in front of Grace on her desk.

Description

Grace’s coffee mug features a smiling cartoon woman flanked at her office desk by stacks of papers. The woman reflects what can only be assumed to be the more assertive side of Grace’s personality* with the warning that: “This mug contains scalding hot coffee. If you make a sexist remark to me I will spill it on your crotch.”

* See also, “He makes you look like an ass is what he does, Ed.”

The warning on the mug concludes as Grace likely would do so herself: “Have a nice day.”

This undated mug features a design by Barbara and Jim Dale and was made by Chicago’s Recycled Paper Products (now Recycled Paper Greetings). It measures approximately 3.5” tall.

Notes

The mug seen on the desk in Mr. Bueller’s office and the mug used by Cameron in the Buellers’ kitchen were also made by Recycled Paper Products.

Finding This Item

Isolating and enlarging the coffee mug in this scene really didn’t provide any help in identifying the exact design other than making it evident that there was a cartoon person of some sort at the bottom.

With very little to go on, I took a shot in the dark knowing that Recycled Paper Products had manufactured other mugs seen in the film. Adding the company name to my search, luck was apparently on my side as it only took a few minutes to find Grace’s mug.
