Description

Wax Trax! Records began as a Denver-based record store before being sold by its owners – Jim Nash and Dannie Flesher – who moved to Chicago in 1978 and founded an independent record label by the same name. Wax Trax! has released music from many notable artists including KMFDM, My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult, The KLF, and Ministry.

The April 1985 issue of The Face magazine – a British music and culture magazine which began publication in 1980 – features an advertisement for Wax Trax! Records on the right half of page 93.

Notes

This is the same issue of The Face that includes the image of Bryan Ferry seen on the wall above the jukebox in Ferris’s bedroom as well as the stop sign image seen on his dresser.

Finding This Item

Having determined that the Bryan Ferry picture and the stop sign image both came from this issue of The Face, I picked up a copy from an online sale having a hunch that there could be more from Ferris’s room in this magazine. Prior to this, I had scoured the internet for any sign of this advertisement exhausting every possible option I could when it came to resources and search terms. Although I came across plenty of cool images in the process, my searches for this specific ad had come up empty.

And then my copy of the April 1985 issue of The Face arrived.

Opening the magazine, the first thing I did was flip to the back assuming I’d find the stop sign image that I was fairly certain would be there (I assumed correctly). Before I could land on the stop sign, an image all-too-familiar caught my eye as I leafed through the pages. There was the Wax Trax ad!
