Description

English singer-songwriter Bryan Ferry was the feature interview in the April 1985 issues of The Face magazine – a British music and culture magazine which began publication in 1980. The image seen in Ferris Bueller’s bedroom is a full-page clipping – page 44 – from this issue.

Notes

This is the same issue of The Face that includes the stop sign image seen on Ferris's dresser and the Wax Trax! Records advertisement seen on the wall above the jukebox in his bedroom.

Finding This Item

Finding this precise picture of Bryan Ferry was initially quite challenging. While many similar images can be found online, everything I came across was different in some way from the one seen on Ferris’s bedroom wall. Eventually, I started to zero in on the cover image from the April 1985 issue of The Face as it was the closest I’d been able to find among the many pages of Bryan Ferry photos I had sifted through.

Additionally, based on the many images I’d studied and the ways in which Bryan Ferry had aged over time, I knew I was looking for something from the early 1980s – specifically, pre-1986 as that would have put the image ahead of the time Ferris Bueller was released.

With the focus turned to this issue of The Face, I was lucky enough to find a copy for sale online which included some images from inside the magazine. One of those images showed the spread opening the interview with Bryan Ferry – a spread that included the picture seen on Ferris’s wall.

Putting one final bit of certainty on this was the small bit of text in the lower left corner of the page. Looking very closely at the image in the movie, this same bit of white text can be seen.
